In a season-ending game played at Lehi May 17, the Fremont Silverwolves, AKA the Silverpups, drained the Lehi Pioneers, AKA the Froggies, 14-6 in loser's bracket action during last week's state 5-A softball play.

Silverpup Amber Nebeker hit two three-run homers that were as devastating to the Froggies as a sudden emptying of a pond. Also pitching for Fremont, Nebeker held Lehi scoreless in the first two innings.

Neither school could score any runs in the first inning. However, in the second inning, the Silverpups scored two runs. They picked up another four in the top of the third. In the bottom of Inning 3, the Froggies scored three runs. They trimmed the Silverpup lead to 6-4 on a fourth-inning run. However, when Nebeker launched her second three-run homer in the fifth, the game went downhill for Lehi. The Silverpups scored three runs in the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh. The Froggies picked up a run in the sixth and another one in the seventh.

Maddy Posshadis, Dina Stewart ,and Jackie Hancock each hit a double for the Silverpups. Taylor Tahbo hit a double for the Froggies while Kate Oberg contributed two singles to the Lehi cause. The Froggies got a single from Carly White, Briley Bringhurst, and Whitney Hall. Brooke Willis scored two runs for the Froggies.

A 30-something prove at the May 12 Lehi Band on the Run 5K that experience can indeed still win out over youth.

Slightly older than 30, Jeff Meyers defeated ninth-grader Brady Taylor for the race overall men's by a fraction of a second. The two competitors stayed even with each other until they entered the course's final 50 yards. They then raced furiously. Meyers crossed the finished by a hundredth of a second ahead of Taylor. The ninth-grader did receive the consolation of winning the men's 13-19 age division medal.

Namea Loselei won the women's overall title handily.

Celeste Broadhead won the girls' age 6-12 division. Collin Taylor won the boys' 6-12 age division. Lauren Leftridge won the women's 13-19 division. Megan Gardner won the women's 20-29 age division. Froggies Defeat Bingham Pickers 2-1 in Region 4 Soccer Finale May 9

In a Region Four boys' soccer finale at Lehi May 9, the Lehi Pioneers, AKA the Froggies, defeated the Bingham Miners, AKA the Pickers, 2-1.

The game was a battle of which of the two schools would finish second place in region, thereby earning the right to host a state octafinal game.

The last time that the Froggies and Pickers met, the contest turned out to be quite physical, and Bingham defeated Lehi.

Lehi Coach Jerry Prisendorf said, "Because of what was  riding on this game, we knew it was going to be chippy."

It was a physical contest all through its 90 minutes of regulation play. Players on both sides drew yellow cards. One Bingham player got red-carded.

Even though emotions became heated at various points of the contest, the referee managed to keep Froggies and Pickers from swinging at each other.

Logan Cottle, Davis "Busta" Crabb, and Isaac Gray led frequent penetrations of Bingham's territory. However, Picker goalie Taran Meyer didn't let a single Froggie shot zip past him in the first half. Lehi's best chance of scoring before halftime arrived when the Pickers drew a foul in their penalty area. Wes Crump attempted to score on an indirect kick, but a wall of Pickers blocked it.

Of course, the Pickers had their own frustrations to deal with. With one of their own booted out of the game, they did impressively well with the 10 guys that they were permitted to use on the Astroturf field.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, they got onto the scoreboard first. A Froggie defender drew a foul inside the Lehi penalty box. Picker Jake Peterson kicked in a penalty shot.

The Pickers enjoyed their 1-0 until Lehi's Caiden Ramos booted in a tying shot during 17:30. The shot tipped the momentum to the Froggies' favor. During the final 2 1/2 minutes, Bingham drew a foul in its penalty box. Lehi had Ramos take the penalty shot. He booted the ball in. Ramos said, "This as a chance to give us a second-place finish in the region. I wanted to make sure that was so. I held up the pressure."

Lehi's defense contained Bingham in the final two minutes. The Froggies went on to win 2-1 over the Taylorsville Warriors, AKA the Road Warriors, in a state octafinal game at home on the following Tuesday. However, Lehi got shut out 2-0 in a state quarterfinal game on the field of the Davis Darts, AKA the Tarts.
