Publisher's Message
For this week's issue, we look at the Region Four boys' soccer opener between the Lehi Pioneers (AKA the Froggies) and the Ferocious Pleasant Grove Vikings. The game was quite riveting -- correction, ribbiting. We will also look at a doubleheader that the Awesome American Fork Cavemen hosted against the Brighton Bengals, AKA the Bad Old Puddy Tats. As they say in Lehi, let's stroke straight to the accounts of those games.

Lehi Froggies Leap Past Ferocious PG Vike Kickers 2-0 in Region 4 Boys' Soccer March 27 Action

In a nighttime Region Four boys' soccer opener at Lehi March 27, the Lehi Pioneers, AKA the Froggies, leaped past the Ferocious Pleasant Grove Vikings 2-0.
All throughout the game, the Froggies gave Ferocious Viking goalie Shadow Bishop a workout. His Ferocious Vikings staged their share of thrilling attacks on the Froggie goal net. Aaron "Moon River" Williams, Nate Spencer, and Jesus Rivas guided several fierce PG attacks deep inside the Froggies' end of the field. Froggies Aaron Caprio and Braden Smith guided a stiff defense that kept the Ferocious Vikings from scoring any goals during the game.
The Froggies took ownership of the scoreboard four minutes into the contest. Taking a pass from Hi Gui Leme, Bosco Muhire kicked in the game's first goal. The Froggies croaked for joy over that goal for a little while, and then they returned to the serious business of trying to keep the Ferocious Vikings from answering Muhire's successful shot.
In the early second half, Rivas prevented Caide Ramos from scoring on an indirect kick. The play merely delayed the posting of the Froggies' second goal. It occurred late in the period. Taking a passing from Ty Nelson, Lemme scored the second goal on a shot from inside the penalty area.
The rest of the game went down as a defensive battle.
Lehi Coach Jerry Presendorf said, "We didn't play the way we should have in the second half. We got too happy with wanting to dribble. We got to stick to the script. Taylor Watkins did a good job, though, as our goalie tonight. Aaron Caprio and Braden Smith did a good job for us in the back field. That enabled us to get the shutout win tonight."
Awesome AF Cavebatters Split Doubleheader With Bad Old Brighton Puddy Tats

The Awesome American Fork Cavemen split a baseball doubleheader against the Brighton Bengals, AKA the Bad Old Puddy Tats. American Fork won the first game 4-3, but the Bad Old Puddy Tats clawed their way to a 9-3 win in the afternoon caper.
In the opening inning of Game 1, American Fork and Brighton battled to a scoreless draw. In the top of the second inning, Bad Old Puddy Tats T.J. "Peach" Orchard and Colby "Dynamic" Batt each clubbed a one-out single off Awesome Caveman pitcher Sean "Inferno" Hardman. An infield error let Orchard score a run after Hardman had struck out Taylor "Spartan" Prokopsis. Hardman grounded out Alex "Axel" Miles before the Bad Old Puddy Tats could tack on additional runs in the second.
In the bottom of the second, Hardman singled into left, only to get snagged in a double play. Even though Awesome Caveman Koy Dibb whacked a single and stole his way around to third, the Bad Brighton Puddy Tats didn't let American Fork score any runs that inning.
The top of the third opened with Dan "Hot Lead" Hopkins blasting a single into left. After walking Nick "Wagsie" Wagner, Hardman struck out Logan "Mr." McGregor and then caused Garrett "Zipper" Eichers to fly out. Suddenly, Hopkins got thrown out in a fielder's choice play at third, keeping the Bad Old Puddy Tat lead at 1-0.
Brighton didn't let the Awesome Cavemen put any men on base in the bottom of the third. The next inning, Batt tripled into right, and Miles singled him in. Aided by a Hopkins single, Wagner knocked Batt on two outs. On two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Hardman singled into left, but got stuck on base.
In the top of the fourth, shortstop Riley Otteson answered a McGregor single by turning up a double play. Though Trey "South Park" Brimhall singled right afterwards, Orchard flew out to center field, preventing the Bad Old Puddy Tats from scoring any runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dibb doubled into left, and Kody "Coco" Hall's single moved him to third. Dibb scored the first American Fork run while Hall got out in a fielder's choice play at second. Emmett Green stole home to cut the lead to 3-2.
Despite getting singles from Batt and Miles in thesixth, the Bad Old Puddy Tats couldn't bring any runners in. On one out in the sixth, Willis tripled into center, and Hardman doubled him in to tie the game at three.
The seventh opened with McGregor singling into right. He got stuck on base. Singling into center in the bottom of the seventh, Dibb scored the winning run when Brock Lamb chopped an infield single.
In the first inning of the second game, McGregor tripled into center, and Brimhall singled him in, opening a four-run rally. During it, Orchard hit a double while Miles and Prokopis each singled. Pitcher Austin Pitcher shut down the rally by striking out Hopkins.
American Fork loaded the bases on two outs in the bottom of the first, and Alec "Sergeant" Shultz hit a three-run triple, only to get stuck on base.
Holding the Bad Old Puddy Tats scoreless in the top of the second, the Awesome Cavemen received a great opportunity for tying the score at three, because of singles hit by Kyle Poulsen and Green. The opportunity vanished when the Bad Old Puddy Tats snagged Poulsen in a squeeze play between third and home. Pitcher Prokopis didn't let the Awesome Cavemen receive any more great scoring opportunities, even though he gave up two singles to Zach Haws and one to Eli Aubrey.
Meanwhile, the Bad Old Puddy Tats lengthened their lead. In the third inning, Miles tripled in a run, and he then scored on Prokopis' sacrifice fly. During the sixth, Batt singled in Eichers, and Orchard came home on a Miles' sacrifice fly. Taking over that the mound in the top of the seventh, Lamb attempted to give Brighton a bad time, but after singling off him, Hopkins came home on an Eichers single for the game's final run, even though Brighton loaded the bases on two outs right afterwards. Brighton prevented American Fork from getting anywhere with a two-out Haws single hit in the bottom of the inning.
