Don't worry. I didn't vanish from this planet a few weeks ago. I simply took some time away from blogging. Now that I'm back, I got a great story about the Awesome American Fork Cavemen's March 16 win over the Logan Grizzlies, AKA the Baby Papa Bears, in lacrosse. Watching that game made me proud of being an American Fork alumni. Let's get to the story about how my Awesome Cavemen slashed their way to a close victory over the Baby Papa Bears.

Awesome AF Cavemen Slash Logan Baby Papa Bears Down 15-11 in March 16 Lacrosse Game

The Awesome American Fork Cavemen outlasted the Logan Grizzlies, AKA the Baby Papa Bears, 15-11 in a non-league lacrosse game played at American Fork's Art Dye Park.

Having played  home games on the American Fork High football field in prior seasons, the Cavemen sort of looked out of place in playing on the same softball field where, a generation ago, Awesome Cavewoman sports legend Ali Lamb chopped a single to drive Denise Williamson in for a winning run in a softball against the Timpview Thunderbirds, AKA the Millionaires. The Cavemen still displayed a strong defense of the softball field as they had done their high school football field.

The Baby Papa Bears controlled the first quarter of the March 16 game. Logan kept the ball on American Fork's end of the field long enough to secure a 2-0 lead on shots from Austin "Shagadelic" Dodd and Mason "Bricks" Ringle. Logan held American Fork scoreless throughout the first quarter.

Early in the second period, Jace Miller flung a shot into the goal net to put his Awesome Cavemen on the board. Miller's shot set off a scoring run for American Fork. Miller and Colt "45" Lewter guided the shooting spree which produced an 8-2 lead for the Awesome Cavemen. Two Jaston Birky shots cut the American Fork lead to 8-4 in the closing minutes of the first half.

The Baby Papa Bears came really close to recovering from the second period. In the third period, Caden "Bullwhip" Andersen, Beau "The Masterpiece" Artist, Nick "Kid" Curry, Shawn "Big Guns" Gundmudsen, and Chad "Sunny" Sundberg guided the Baby Papa Bears to claw their way back within 9-7. Shots from Lewter and Coulson Porter pushed the Cavemen's lead at 11-7 near the end of the third quarter.

One of the game's most thrilling shots occurred late in the third quarter. From the halfway line, Awesome Cavemen Seth Rasmussen flung the ball in what he intended to be a pass. The ball zipped past Rasmussen's teammates and a few Baby Papa Bears, and the project hit the inside of the goal net.

Logan battled within 13-11 in the early fourth quarter. American Fork goal Porter Holland shut the Baby Papa Bears down after that. Chase Culliard and Lewter each flung in a goal that clutched the game for American Fork.

Miller led American Fork with five goals. Birky led the Baby Papa Bears with three goals.

American Fork Coach Tyler Monteath said, "I told my guys during the first period break to settle down and just play our game. They did a good job in running our offense in the second period. Holland did a really good job at goalie today, especially in the final period."
